Choose to Serve the Lord - Hero Stories and Picture Matching

Since this is a long song with 2 verses and a bridge, I taught each verse separately and treated the bridge as a 3rd verse. I spent 3-4 weeks teaching each verse. I repeated this activity for each verse to help the children understand who these scripture heroes are and what they did.

The print-out consists of a page for each hero which includes their name, their picture, their line in the song, and a short description of their story. I cut out each part of the page and put the names, pictures, and song lines on the board. I asked the children to listen to the song and help me match up the names with the correct picture and the correct line in the song. We sang through the verse while volunteers came up one by one to make a match. After their turn they tapped the shoulder of the next child to continue without interruption while we sang through the first verse on repeat. We stopped when all the word strips and pictures were correctly matched. 

I didn't put the story descriptions on the board. Instead I used those as a reference for me to explain who the person is or what they did. Before telling their story, I asked for any volunteers who could briefly describe their story.
